Lucas schedules first visits

Coming off a second straight state championship to close his fabulous prep career, Baton Rouge (La.) Redemptorist standout Jay Lucas is starting to schedule his official visits.
A three-star running back, Lucas (5-11, 224, 4.51) has scheduled dates with LSU for Jan. 9 and Indiana for Jan. 16. He says he will also visit Florida state, but has not finalized that date.

It appears the hometown Tigers will be tough to beat in this battle.
“If I had to pick today, it would be LSU,” he said. “They have the home state advantage, and I really like the direction their program is heading. They have a lot of great young players, and they’re already playing for the national championship. I think they’re going to be real good for a long time.”
The Seminoles and Hoosiers will keeping making a push, though, and Lucas says he likes what all three programs have to offer.
“Florida State is a great program, too,” he said. “They have a good offense that fits my style. I’ve always liked watching them play.
“Indiana is a real nice school and they have a need for a running back to come in and help them right away.”
The Hoosiers and Tigers have visited Lucas at home and school, respectively. He said he plans on meeting with FSU in the near future.
Asked if there was a chance he would take any more visits, Lucas said: "Right now, it's wide open. I'm mainly looking at those three schools, though."
As a senior, Lucas rushed for 1,666 yards and 25 touchdowns. He had 207 yards and two touchdowns in the Class 3A championship win over John Curtis, earning MVP honors. He closed his career with 4,668 yards rushing.
