Lucas remains solid to USM

Despite the Golden Eagles 0-11 record, Jamal Lucas remains committed to Southern Miss.
He chose Southern Miss over offers from Mississippi State and UAB.
"Coach Ellis is recruiting a brand new class and we are supposed to come in next year and change the program around regardless of the record this year," remarked Lucas.
Arkansas, Middle Tennessee, and Stanford are actively recruiting him. The Hoover (Ala.) standout plans to take visits and wants to check out Stanford. The Cardinal haven't offered, but they've recently started to show interest.
Lucas said, "It's a once in a lifetime experience. I've never been to California, so if they offer that is something I want to see."
He could have picked Mississippi State and played in the SEC, but he felt more at home in Hattiesburg. The three-star linebacker sees himself making the biggest impact at Southern Miss.
"I have a great relationship with the coaches. Tommy West is from my area. I have a great bond with them," stated Lucas.
Lucas looks to lead his team to past Vestavia Hills (Ala.) on Friday night in the regional quarterfinals of the Class 6A playoffs.
