Lucas picks the Sun Devils

Arizona State is keeping another top local prospect home for college.

Four-star athlete Chase Lucas committed to the Sun Devils on Monday just a week after Chandler, Ariz., teammate N'Keal Harry, a five-star wide receiver, announced for ASU.
Lucas, the No. 7-rated athlete in the 2016 class and No. 122 overall prospect in the Rivals250 rankings, officially visited Oregon State and Washington earlier this season, and also had UCLA in his final four.
"It's been a crazy process, especially knowing my recruitment was coming to an end," Lucas told Rivals.com. "I had to make the decision that's going to be the best for me and that's Arizona State. I'm going to completely shut everything down and I won't be taking official visits to any other schools.
"I hope that, at the end of the day, coaches at other schools won't be mad at me because it was a pleasure to be recruited by all of them."
Arizona State head coach Todd Graham and offensive coordinator Mike Norvell dropped by Chandler's game two weeks ago via helicopter and watched Lucas, who had been sidelined most of his senior season with a knee injury suffered in Week 1, rather intently.
"They want me to play wide receiver in the slot, but I could also do some safety and some corner," Lucas said.
Lucas became the fifth four-star prospect to join the Sun Devils' class, not counting Harry, the No. 2-rated wideout in the nation. ASU might not be done in the Grand Canyon State, either, with four-star cornerback Byron Murphy from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro set to take his official visit there later this month and then scheduled to announce his decision at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl game in January. Graham and Co. signed only two of the state's top 12 prospects in the 2015 class.
The three childhood friends have repeatedly stated their desire to play on the same team and now the Sun Devils, who have emphasized the "Hometown Hero" mantra on the trail, are two-thirds of the way to making that happen.
