Lucas has change of heart

Tempe (Ariz.) McClintock receiver Xavier Lucas committed to UTEP in mid-January, but in the back of his mind something told him to keep his options open in case something new presented itself. That something new became Boise State, who started to recruit him after Chris Peterson was named the head coach.
"I'm now going to Boise State," Lucas, a 6-foot-4, 190-pounder that is ranked as the No. 15 player in Arizona, said. "It happened last week after I took an official visit there.

"I had committed to UTEP, but for some reason something told me to take a visit to Boise State. They got in on me late because of the coaching situation. They heard about me from one of the coaches that moved from Arizona State.
"Arizona State wasn't going to take me, but they wanted me up at Boise. They brought me in, and I loved it."
Lucas said the visit on January 20 won him over officially.
"It's a great program," Lucas said. "I got up there and I felt like I belonged."
Lucas said UTEP didn't take the new too well.
"Coach (Jeff) Banks was kind of upset," Lucas said. "We talked about it for an hour. But I couldn't find a reason to change my mind. I told coach Price, and he said I had to do what's best for me. What's best for me was Boise, so I'm happy with my decision."
