Russell stands at 6-foot-1, 190 and is considered to be one the most outstanding cornerback prospects in the Southeast. He is a three-star prospect and the No. 40 cornerback overall in the nation.
"He is an outstanding player that ran a 4.4 at the Nike combine," coach J.T. Curtis said. "He has an excellent break on the ball and is an excellent tackler."
Russell committed to LSU over UCLA, Texas, Miami, Clemson, Michigan, Tulane, Southern Mississippi and West Virginia.
As a junior, Russell had two interceptions after a sophomore season where he had seven. So far this season Russell has one interception with 18 tackles.
Russell is the second John Curtis player to commit to LSU this year. Athlete Jason Spadoni committed to LSU earlier in the summer.
