Josh Muse has reportedly had an offer from his clear No. 1
school, LSU, for quite some time.
A verbal commitment, however, doesn't appear to be
in the making. Muse (6-4, 280, 4.85) says that prompts a lot of questions
about what keeps him waiting.
"I just want to take some visits and see everything
that's out there," said the Rivals.com
Louisiana
Top 30 team member. "I want to make sure I pick the place
that's right for me. I've always felt like that's probably LSU, but I
haven't seen these other places. I want to see some other campuses, meet the
people there, and check out what the playing time looks like at all the
schools who are recruiting me. I'd much rather be able to come in and play a
lot as a freshman instead of redshirting."
His only other scholarship offers to date are from
Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana-Monroe, but Muse says
Southern Miss appears close to putting one on the table. "They're the most
active right now," he said. "I hear from them a lot more than anyone else,
so I kind of expect them to offer me."
He noted that he's also hearing regularly from
Oklahoma State, Arkansas and Auburn.
His only unofficial visit this fall has been to the
South Carolina-LSU game in Baton Rouge on Oct. 19. "I had a great time. I
loved the atmosphere and how the fans got into it. They were really crazy,
and the team just responded to that and dominated the second half."
Muse says he hasn't given much thought to his
official visits yet. "I want to see who all is offering me first," he said.
As a junior, Muse recorded 88 tackles and 10 sacks.
Through eight games this season, he's chalked up 75 tackles and five sacks.
