FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- When Andrew Chatfield backed off his commitment to Ohio State, some looked at Florida as a logical landing spot. After all, his decommitment on the heels of an offer from the Gators and things seemed logical.

Months later, Chatfield remains an uncommitted prospect. He also continues to shoot down the idea that Florida leads his recruitment. Asked about a leader, he goes in the say-nothing direction.

“I’m just being patient,” Chatfield said on Friday. “I like Florida, but I’m being patient with the team right now. I’m not going to look at them and say, ‘oh, that’s it. Done deal. I’m being patient. There’s no leader right now.”

And so the four-star prospect states what he’s stated for weeks. Asked which teams are in the thick of the hunt to land his services, he rattles off a semi-familiar list of programs.

This time, the list comes with a caveat.

“Ohio State, Oregon, Oklahoma, LSU,” Chatfield said. “They’ve bene at my head lately. Especially LSU.”

LSU’s persistence seems to be paying off. Chatfield doesn’t name the Tigers as his leader. In fact, he doesn’t even come close to doing so. He does, however, note that Ed Orgeron’s program has recruited him as well as anyone.

“I talk to LSU the most right now,” Chatfield said. “I like the coaches a lot. I like their vibe. At the end of the day even when I was committed to Ohio State, they were still talking to me. I’ve always liked that vibe.”

A senior at Ft. Lauderdale’s American Heritage High School. Chatfield is ranked as the No. 14 outside linebacker and the No. 216 overall prospect in the 2018 class.
