LSU offers, leaps to top of Jones' list

LSU had a big weekend and the Tigers picked up commitments from two of the top 10 prospects in the state of Mississippi.

Defensive end Jaren Handy popped first. Then it was linebacker Zach Edwards.

Who could be next?

Jarrian Jones was another top prospect out of Mississippi that spent much of Saturday in Baton Rouge and he left with an offer. That changed things for the defensive back out of Flowood (Miss.) Northwest Rankin.

"LSU is my leader as of now," said Jones.

Jones details the reasons why the Tigers leaped to the top of his list.

"LSU is a wonderful place and Coach O (head coach Ed Orgeron) described to me that I am a top priority for this class because I am a versatile defensive back that can play anything in the secondary.

"LSU is also known for putting defensive backs in the league. Coach O also told me that he wouldn't be recruiting me as hard if he didn't think I could come in and play early. I just had a feeling I have never had before while I was on campus."

The relationship Jones has with new safeties coach, Bill Busch plays into this too. Busch and Jones have been in contact since early 2018. The two have bonded and they spent a lot of time together Saturday.

"Coach Busch was talking to me the entire day and the we relationship we have is great. He texts me every day to make sure I am good and they are recruiting me hard."

LSU is targeting Jones and a handful of other top prospects in Mississippi. Jones was not shy when asked about how many the Tigers could potentially land in this class.

"They could get eight of us," said Jones. "LSU is recruiting us so hard. I guess they see that we have some ballers in this state.

"It is a home feel there for me."
