It is finally over.
Phillip Webb was hoping to commit over the summer and have his recruitment behind him before the season, but that did not work out.
He just wasn't ready.
But now he is.
After official visits to Alabama, Florida, LSU and Oklahoma, the Rivals100 talent out of Sugar Hill (Ga.) Lanier has picked the Tigers in Baton Rouge.
"It is really a relief that it is over," said Webb. "I wanted to be committed a long time ago, but I wasn't ready, so I took my time and made the right decision.
"LSU is the right school for me and they just kept progressing with me over time. It really started around October and after that, things just built up from there.
"There was never one moment where things changed with them, but it was just a progression over time. I always had a good feeling about them after my spring and summer visits, then we built on that."
LSU beat out Alabama and Florida. Webb said each made a strong case and there really wasn't a clear No. 2 in this race.
Ed Orgeron, Dave Aranda and the LSU got the job done and the deal was closed last week.
"I kind of told LSU I was coming a little while ago, but I truly committed to them in the in-home visit last week. Coach O is a strong man, a great person and I have a lot of respect for him.
"Coach Aranda is a defensive mind, a great coach and he put a lot of effort into me. He stayed in constant communication, he recruited me very hard and those type of relationships mean a lot to me."
Webb said the perfect season to date did not really play a role into his decision, but he has noticed how the team has improved under coach O. He does not see that changing.
"I am just excited about getting there and playing for LSU now," said Webb. "Coach O has shown what he can do as a coach, the players are great and I am excited to be a part of it."
