Jermaine Love has a message for all the people that said he was too short to be a big-time college football prospect.
"I'm an All-American now," Love said.
The 5-foot-11, 220-pound linebacker from Garland (Texas) North Garland has been selected by Rivals.com to play linebacker for the West squad in the inaugural Offense-Defense All-American Bowl. The Jan. 4 game in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., will give fans a chance to see why Love is regarded as one of the nation's top 250 players by Rivals.com.
"This is a great chance to show people that I'm a dominating football player," Love said. "I've been told by a lot of people over the past few years that I'm too short to do this or do that. But I kept working hard and now I'm going to play in an All-American game. This is a huge honor, and I was really surprised, but it looks like all the hard work did pay off."
Love said fans watching on ESPNU should expect a hard-working player that will fly around and make a lot of plays.
"I'm going to go out there and kill somebody," Love said with a laugh. "I'm a really big hitter, a headhunter, so I can't wait to get out there and knock some heads. This will be my first time I've ever been to Florida, and it will be a challenge to play against players that are this good, but I'm ready for it."
He also has some plans for when he's off the football field.
"I know it's not a vacation," he said. "But I'm sure I'm going to be loving the weather, and I hear it's really beautiful down there. I'm going to bring my brother down with me, and he's also really excited about the trip."
Love says that his current leader is Arkansas. He plans to take an official visit to Fayetteville for the final home game against LSU. Behind the Razorbacks is Nebraska at No. 2. He has officially visited Kansas State and would like to make his final decision at the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl.
