Mike West.
"Louisville started recruiting me a lot harder about
two weeks ago," he said. "I just got off the phone with them about 15
minutes ago. Their coach was down here at my school (Tuesday), and he wanted
to check in with me tonight to see how I was doing and if I felt like they
were a place I was really interested in. I told him I was, so we set up an
official visit for Dec. 13.
"I'm pretty excited about that. They're a team
that's really coming up."
West (6-1, 195, 4.5) also has a visit scheduled for
Central Florida on Jan. 3. In addition to those programs, he's entertaining
offers from Southern Miss, South Florida, Troy State and Illinois State.
"Right now, Southern Miss, Louisville and Troy State
are my top three," he said. "They're the ones who have been recruiting me
the hardest. Louisville of late, but really back to last year with Southern
Miss and Troy State. They were the first teams who really showed interest in
me, and I definitely want to go somewhere that I'm wanted, where I can make
a big impact. I don't want to go somewhere that I'd be just another player."
West is playing running back and outside linebacker
for North Marion this season. He's rushed for 1,265 yards and 11 touchdowns
while recording 58 tackles on defense.
He said all the schools on his list are recruiting
him as an "athlete" and have indicated he'd have the opportunity to play
either side of the ball.
