Louisville impresses Memphis RB

Three-star Memphis (Tenn.) Melrose all-purpose back Joseph Doss is fresh off his first official visit.
“I had a great time up at Louisville,” he said. “It was nice. That was my first visit, so I was really surprised by how good it was. I didn’t know what to expect, but it was a great time.

“I liked the head coach (Bobby Petrino) a lot. He’s a real easy-going guy who is easy to talk to. When I was spending some time with him, I felt like he really cared about me personally, not just as a football player. Me and my mother both enjoyed him.
“I also felt like they have a good opportunity for me there. I fit into their offense pretty well. The players were easy to get along with. I had a good time with my host, Jimmy Riley. He was cool. I liked the campus and the business professor I met, too. There’s a lot of good pluses for them.”
Doss (5-9, 175, 4.4) led Melrose to an 11-2 record this season. He rushed for 1,100 yards and 21 touchdowns and added two more scores via receptions.
In addition to the Cardinals, he also has Memphis, Kentucky and South Carolina on his final list. He’ll visit those schools on consecutive weekends beginning Friday with the hometown Tigers.
“I’m open to all of them right now,” he said. “I won’t know where I’m going until I finish my visits. They’ve all got some good things about them.”
His teammate, quarterback Antonio Heffner, is being recruited by the same group of schools, with the exception of Louisville. The Cards were on his list earlier in the process, but dropped off of late.
Asked if he and Heffner ever talked about going to the same school, Doss said: “We talk about it every now and then, but in the end we know we have to go where it’s the best fit for us personally, the best opportunity for either me or him. It may not be the same school.”
