Louisiana WR makes first visit
East Ascension (La.) wide receiver Shawn Nelson took his first official visit this weekend.
“I just got back from Louisiana Tech today,” he said. “It was a good trip. It surprised me somewhat. I had been around there a little bit before, but I’ve never spent a lot of time there seeing everything. It was more than I expected.

“I liked the family atmosphere there. All the players seemed to have a personal relationship with the coaches. They also have good academic support.”
Nelson (6-4, 224, 4.5) said he was told he’ll have a chance to come in and compete for a starting job as a freshman.
“They’re losing a lot of receivers, so it’s a pretty good opportunity for me,” he said.
He plans to take at least one more trip before he makes his decision. That will come next weekend at Southern Miss.
As a senior, Nelson had 700 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns.
