Some may expect the star of Baton Rouge (La.) Redeptorist’s state title squad to be ready to cast his lot with the recently crowned national champions at LSU, but he’s playing the recruiting game with patience.
“LSU is looking real good,” said three-star running back/athlete Jay Lucas. “But I really want to take my other visits before I decide. LSU has told me they’ll be there for me when I decide. They’re not rushing me.”
Lucas (5-11, 224, 4.51) has a visit scheduled for Indiana on Jan. 16, but it will likely come down to the trio of LSU, Florida State and Texas.
“I’m going to LSU on the 23rd and Florida State on the 26th,” he said. “We don’t have a date for Texas right now, but I definitely want to go. They’ve come on pretty strong and showed me a lot of interest lately.
“All of those are pretty even right now. I want to see who has the best situation for me.”
As a senior, Lucas rushed for 1,666 yards and 25 touchdowns. He had 207 yards and two touchdowns in the Class 3A championship win over John Curtis, earning MVP honors. He closed his career with 4,668 yards rushing.
