Louisiana QB getting more calls

Jefferies Tatford has seen
interest pick up in tandem with a strong start to his senior season.
"I've gotten off to a great start," said the
first-year starter for Lafayette's St. Thomas More. "We're 2-1, and I've had
about 200 yards per game. Actually, the game we lost, I played the game of
my life. I was 23 of 41 for 304 yards and two touchdowns, and we had seven
drops in that game. I had about 150 yards in both of the other games. We
passed up and down the field, but always ran the ball when we got inside the
20. I would have liked to have had a couple of more touchdown passes."
Tatford (6-4, 212, 4.63) said he's been receiving
several calls this month, most of them coming from five schools -- Southern
Miss, Florida, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette and Middle Tennessee
State.
"Southern Miss has shown the most interest," he
said. "They've called quite regularly. But all five of those have been
calling a few times. They've been asking for game film."
Is there a favorite in that mix?
"Well, obviously Florida, because of the type of
program they have, and Southern Miss, too. Both of those are
nationally-recognized programs," Tatford said. "Not only that, but they've
got some real nice coaches. They're real personal. When they call, they
don't just ask me about stats and football and try to badger me about where
I want to go. They ask how things have been going with me, how my family is,
stuff like that. I like that a lot."
