Louisiana OL camps at UCLA, Vandy

River Ridge (La.) offensive lineman Matthew Luwe believes he’s helped his stock with a handful of camp appearances this month.
“I went to a lineman challenge camp at Vanderbilt, a full camp at UCLA and Mike Hodges’ lineman camp in Georgia,” said Luwe, a 6-foot-2, 260-pound center for perennial state powerhouse John Curtis Christian. “The Vandy camp was a very good camp. I liked their staff, especially coach Caldwell. I really related to him well and learned a lot from him. He told me to keep doing what I’ve been doing, keep working hard, and to send them some more film to evaluate. He said I was one of the best linemen they’ve had in camp, so that was nice.

“UCLA was great, too. I loved everything out there. I learned a lot from their staff, too. Coach Webber was real nice. He likes my technique and wants me to send them some more tape as soon as possible. He said they’d be watching me this season. My interest in them is growing. They’re definitely one of my top schools right now.”
Luwe has yet to receive his first official scholarship offer, but is also receiving considerable interest from Kansas, Iowa State, Mississippi State and Kentucky.
"Kansas has been sending a whole lot of stuff," he said. "They've really turned things up. The coach wants to talk to me the next time they can make calls. I like their program. I have some family in that area, too.
“I was invited to Mississippi State’s camp in July. I’m trying to decide whether I’ll go there or not.”
Luwe acknowledges that his height has likely slowed his recruitment, but makes up for it in other areas. He runs a consistent 4.8 forty and possesses outstanding strength (405 bench, 550 squat). Academically, he maintains a 3.0 GPA and has scored a 17 on the ACT.
