Louisiana DT on the prowl

Metairie (La.) East Jefferson has been home to some of the top athletes in the state of Louisiana over the years and this year is no exception. That’s especially true with a standout defensive lineman like Luis Hernandez on the prowl.
Hernandez, who is 6-foot-2 and 290 pounds, projects as a defensive tackle and is getting heavy early attention from Stanford, LSU, Texas A&M, Florida, Auburn and Notre Dame with Stanford and LSU as his top two teams. In a call around the first of the month, Stanford coaches told Hernandez that if he gets a 24 on his ACT then he’d have a scholarship.

“I have a 3.0 and a 22 right now,” Hernandez said. “So I know that I’m going to get it.”
Hernandez said he recorded 43 solo tackles, 28 assists, five tackles for a loss and two fumble recoveries as a junior – helping him earn all-East Bank Jefferson Parish honors. He also helped push East Jefferson to a 7-3 record on into the state playoffs.
“I’m very aggressive,” he said. “I really like to go out there and rush the passer. That’s what I’m best at.”
Hernandez said he would camp this summer at LSU, Ole Miss and Auburn. He also has outlined a few things that he’s looking for when it comes time to make a decision.
“The education will be No. 1,” he said. “I’m also going to look at the graduation rate and winning. Those are the big things for me.”
