Louisiana DB picks up another SEC offer

Jennings (La.) safety Gary Riggs is a tall, lean defensive back with good speed and solid strength. He has impressed two schools enough to pick up a scholarship offer from each.
“Ole Miss and South Carolina have verbally offered me,” Riggs said. “Ole Miss offered me a long time ago and South Carolina offered sometime around the end of May. There are still a lot of other schools that I’m hearing from like LSU, Florida and Tennessee, Tulane and TCU.”

The 6-foot-1, 184-pound Riggs attended the NIKE camp in Baton Rouge where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.64 seconds. He ran the shuttle in 4.35 seconds and had a 32-inch vertical jump.
“Right now my top five schools are Florida, South Carolina, LSU. Ole Miss and Tennessee,” Riggs said. “I would probably have to say that Tennessee is No. 1 on my list right now. It is in a good location, they have a good team and it seems like a place I would want to be.”
Riggs earned all-district honors as a junior and a sophomore. An honorable mention all-state pick as a junior.
“I’m looking for early playing time,” Riggs said. “I want to go somewhere that will give me that opportunity. I want to make sure that I get along with the coaches and players wherever I go. Right now I want to hold off on a decision and wait and take all of my visits.”
Riggs has a 285-pound bench press and a 365-pound squat. He does eight reps of 185 pounds on the bench press. The only camp he has attended so far this summer was at LSU.
