Louisiana back has new offer, two leaders

One of Louisiana’s top prospects has a new offer from Indiana to go along with previous offers from the two schools highest on his list.
“Indiana offered me not too long ago, but LSU and Florida State are the main two right now,” said Redemptorist standout Jay Lucas. “I don’t really have a top five right now, but LSU and Florida State will be there. I like the coaches and the style of play at both of those schools. I’ve been to camps at LSU and like them a lot, especially being close to home. I really like Bobby Bowden, too. I told him I would take an official visit there.”

Lucas (5-11, 224, 4.5) was a first-team all-state selection as a junior after rushing for 1,982 yards and 30 touchdowns. He also had 373 yards receiving and four touchdowns through the air.
In addition to the Tigers, Seminoles and Hoosiers, he’s also receiving heavy interest from Texas, Tennessee, Florida, Notre Dame, Colorado and Nebraska.
“All of them either came down to see me or called this spring,” Lucas said.
Tennessee, Texas and Notre Dame round out his current top five.
“Tennessee usually has a great power back in their offense,” Lucas said. “They tell me I’m like a lot of the running backs that they’ve had there over the years. Texas is kind of the same way. They always have good running backs like Ricky Williams. I’m a big fan of him. With Notre Dame, it’s mostly that tradition that I like.”
Lucas attended LSU’s camp earlier this month. He’s considering camps at Florida State and Miami later this summer.
Academically, he’s sporting a 3.1 GPA and took the SAT for the first time on June 14.
