Longson headed to BYU

Kieffer Longson loved all the programs in his final four but BYU was the best fit and the three-star offensive lineman is happy with his commitment.
The San Ramon (Calif.) Dougherty Valley prospect picked the Cougars over Utah, UCLA and Ohio State on Monday morning and he said BYU had everything he was looking for on and off the field.

"I just thought they had the best combination of all the stuff I wanted and I really liked BYU," Longson said.
One of the things that especially stood out to the 6-foot-7, 295-pound recruit is his relationship with BYU offensive line coach Garrett Tujague.
Longson, rated as the No. 60 offensive tackle in the 2015 class by Rivals.com, had developed good bonds with position coaches across the country but his talks with Tujague were especially important.
"Coach T.J., the o-line coach, is amazing," Longson said. "I really like him and he's one of my favorite coaches. He just sees all my hopes and dreams and he seems like a really great coach. There were also other coaches as well but I liked him best."
The Sam Ramon Dougherty Valley lineman won't jump right to college football. Shortly after high school, Longson will go on his Mission and then return for the 2017 season. BYU has dealt with that plenty but it was not a determining factor in his final choice.
"Right after high school I'm going to go on a Mission," Longson said.
"Every program can deal with that pretty well. I don't think it's just a BYU thing because Utah has a lot of return missionaries and UCLA has dealt with it. I don't know about Ohio State but they said they'd work with it. That wasn't a determining factor."
