Lofton names top five

One of the top wide receivers in the state next year will be San Diego (Calif.) Westview's Daniel Lofton. Lofton has a trio of scholarship offers and a solid top five at this time.
Lofton, 6-1, 195 pounds played his junior year at Poway before transferring recently to Westview. Poway is known predominately as a running team and as a result, Lofton hasn't put up the gaudy numbers you might expect from someone with his talent. The receiver caught 23 balls for 493 yards and a touchdown his sophomore year and then caught 18 balls for 450 yards and three touchdowns this past season.

Lofton has some serious connections to Stanford, which have already been well documented. His father father James played for the Cardinal and his older brother David is a current member of the team as well.
"I just want to go in a different direction," Lofton said. "It's nothing against Stanford but I just want to go somewhere and make a name for myself."
In watching film on Lofton, he shows good speed and can definitely get deep although we would like to see him use his hands a little more rather than his body to catch the ball. On the recruiting front, Lofton said he has offers from San Diego State, San Jose State and Duke and is hearing from several others.
"I'm hearing from all of the Pac 10 plus Kansas, Michigan State, Alabama, Colorado and Florida," Lofton said. "UCLA is my top school followed by Cal, Kansas, San Diego State and USC. I'm going to camp with UCLA and Cal and will also attend the Nike Camp at USC. The main things I'm looking for in a school are academics, location and the coaching staff and what kind of relationship I have with them."
Lofton is also getting looks in track and personal bests of 10.8 in the 100m, 22.6 in the 200 and 49.2 in the 400m. Academically, he's carrying a 3.0 GPA and will take the SAT later in the year.
