Lockett recruitment gets busy

The coaches at Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei implored Jonathan Lockett to remain patient and told him his recruitment would pick up.
That has definitely happened for the 5-foot-11, 172-pound cornerback as he added another offer from Arizona in recent days to build to his impressive portfolio.

"It was a surprise," Lockett said. "I walked into my coach's office and I told him I had a tutor and whatever and he said Arizona offered. I had never even talked to them.
"It's more research because I don't know too much about them yet."
So far, Lockett has picked up offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, Notre Dame, Oregon, San Jose State, UCLA and Washington.
Many of his most high-profile offers came in the last week so Lockett is encouraged things will remain busy from here.
"Last week was my biggest week because they all came in," Lockett said.
"I'm really excited. I knew it was going to pick up sooner or later because I saw all these other kids get early offers and my coach just said to be patient and it will come. Now I guess it's coming."
Because Lockett is seeing things get much busier, he doesn't want to name favorites or make a decision just yet.
One Pac-12 powerhouse, in particular, continues to show a lot of interest so the Mater Dei prospect said he wants to take things into the summer before seriously considering a commitment.
"SC is heavily recruiting me now," Lockett said. "They're sending me hand-written letters, about five of them each day, so they're the school that's recruiting me the hardest.
"No favorites right now. I'll probably cut my list sometime in the summer."
