Location Not a Factor For Abiamiri

Victor Abiamiri continues to show schools why he is one of the top defensive players in the nation.
"When I've talked to coaches I've gotten a lot of flattering stuff," said the 6-foot-5, 245-pound defensive end. "They like to talk about my stats and how our team is doing. So far I've got like seven sacks or something. I'm not worrying about specific numbers, but I do know that I get in the backfield all the time and disrupt a lot of plays."

Abiamiri's teammate at Baltimore (Md.) Gilman is quarterback/safety Ambrose Wooden and they're looking at some of the same schools.
"Ambrose and I have talked a little about going to the same college, but that's probably not going to be a big issue. My favorites right now are UCLA, Southern Cal, Stanford, Maryland, Ohio State, Miami, Notre Dame and North Carolina. Most of the schools I like have good defensive traditions and offer a good balance of academics and athletics."
Abiamiri would like to decide which schools he'll take official visits to after the season, and isn't sure if he's leaning to any school. The talented big man runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds and last year as a junior he earned all-Metro honors from the Baltimore Sun.
"I wouldn't say I have any favorites, or if I have any favorites to get official visits. Ambrose and I might visit a school or two together, even if it's just to get a feel of a new place with someone you're familiar with.
"A lot of players talk about wanting to stay close to home and all, but that's not so big with me. I like Maryland because I've seen them a lot, but just because they're close to home doesn't mean I like them more than any other school. Distance won't be a factor. After I take my official visits, or a few of them, I'll decide on my school."
