Local schools revisit four-star

Four-star athlete Anthony Boyles (6-3, 185, 4.4) from Gardena (Calif.) Serra is really living up to his reputation as one of the best players in southern California. So much so that he has caught the earnest attention of both the local colleges (UCLA and USC) that both are once again recruiting Boyles.
"Both UCLA and USC are rethinking things about Anthony," Serra coach Scott Altenberg said. "They have both been calling about Anthony specifically."

"The reason being Anthony is having a big year for us," Altenberg said. "(UCLA defensive line) Coach Todd Howard told me Anthony is the most electrifying player he has seen on the high school level in a long time."
"(USC linebacker) Coach Ken Norton Jr., told me they are reevaluating him," Altenberg said. "Coach Norton was in the audience when Anthony made the most incredible catch.
"Anthony got hit in traffic as he caught the ball and he was flipped up in the air and somehow he landed on his feet, ran and scored a touchdown," Altenberg said. "It was a pretty amazing.
"I think it was the game where Anthony has something like 10 catches for 100 yards and three touchdowns," Altenberg said. "It was quite a performance."
"Washington, Washington State, and Oregon have been recruiting all along," Altenberg said. "Washington may still be the leader, but it will be interesting to see how this thing plays out with the local schools. This may open things up. We will have to see."
In an earlier interview with Altenberg his statement now seems prophetic.
"As a runner after the catch, he's very elusive and if you take the wrong angle on him, he will make you look foolish," Altenberg said. "His nickname is showtime, because when he gets the ball in his hands, anything can happen"
So far Boyles in four games, Boyles has 19 catches for 293 yards and three touchdowns while playing for a brand new quarterback.
Boyles is rated by Rivals.com as the nation's lucky No. 11 athlete prospect for the class of 2007. He is also a member of the Rivals.com California top 100 team landing as the Golden State's No. 17 ranked player at any position.
