Five-star defensive tackle Rashan Gary has plenty of options but the school he has visited the most is the hometown Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The Paramus (N.J.) Paramus Catholic star was back on campus recently to see Rutgers scrimmage.
"I got to talk to the coaching staff, see the scrimmage and talk to a few of the players," said the 6-foot-4, 276-pound Gary. "I liked what I saw out at the scrimmage. there were a lot of recruits there. I was playing attention mostly to the defense and I thought they did pretty good. I liked how they're playing."
Gary has grown closer with the Rutgers staff since he exploded onto the scene at the 2013 Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour in New Jersey.
"The coaches talked to me about what they need to do so they can get me," he said. "I talked to coach Panagos and coach Flood."
Gary wasn't the only big time 2016 prospect to check out Rutgers in person for their scrimmage. Kareem Walker, the top running back in the 2016 class, and Jarrett Guarantano, also a member of the 2016 Rivals100, were there as well.
"I spent most of my time with Kareem and Jarrett," Gary said. "We were just talking about the recruiting process and what we think about Rutgers."
In the past Gary has mentioned Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, Florida and others as schools he talks to most.
"I'm just focused on the football season," he said. "I'm not really talking to any coaches right now."
Gary was one of the few underclassmen to participate in the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by Under Armour in Baltimore.
