Derek Landri may end up being an All-American defensive tackle once he gets to college. Then again, he may also end up being an All-American offensive guard. The talented two-way lineman from DeLaSalle High School is one of the most highly regarded line prospects in the nation and almost every school recruiting him is willing to play him on either side of the ball.
“I have over 20 offers,” Landri said. “The entire PAC 10 has offered, as has Notre Dame, Nebraska, Clemson, Miami, Colorado, Michigan, Ohio State, LSU, and others. Most all of them are asking what side of the line I want to play in college. They are willing to have me go either way.”
Notre Dame, Nebraska, USC, Miami, and California are his top schools right now.
Landri said that academics would hold a primary role in his decision. “I’ll look at the graduation rate and the quality of education,” Landri said. “I will also look at the surroundings and the tradition of the team. I don’t think distance will be a factor and as far as weather…I actually prefer cold weather over the heat.”
The blue-chipper out of California said that is his parents had their way, he would stick around California. “They sort of want me to stay close to home,” Landri said, “but they really want whatever will make me happy.
When asked what side of the line he prefers, Landri said, “I like them both. My high school coaches on both sides of the line are awesome. It will depend on what school that I go to.” Landri will bring solid attributes to whichever position he decides to play. “My technique is solid,” Landri said, “and my feet are quick. I get off of the ball very fast.”
