Linebackers are explosive out West

Linebackers are like heat seeking missiles. They are the guys that once they see where the ball is they are wreaking havoc to the unfortunate soul that happens to be in possession of the pigskin.

The linebacker mentality is one to behold. Do you remember the old posters and SI covers of Dick Butkis, Mike Singletary, Jack Lambert and Lawrence Taylor?
Pictures say a thousand words.
The one thing that strikes you when looking at those ancient photos was the intense gaze looking through the facemask.
Linebackers have a look.
A menacing look that says “I can’t wait to hit you and hit you again.” Next time you see a game take a look at the focus and intensity of linebackers. Pac10Recruiting now takes a look at some of the best linebackers on the West Coast.
Pac10Recruitng will profile Tahj Bomar, Lance Broadas, Garrett Tremblay, Jonathan Turner, Thomas Williams and Ammon Wolfley.
Undoubtedly there are others but this is a good start.
Bomar (6-2, 210, 4.58) from Covington (Wash.) Kentwood has seen his stock after strong performances at the Nike camp held at Eugene on June 8. Many in attendance thought that Bomar was the class linebacker at the combine. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.58 seconds, had a 4.3 shuttle time, recorded 31-inch vertical jump and benched 185-pounds 17 times.
Bomar helped his team to win a state championship after collecting 150 tackles as a junior.
Bomar has an offer from Washington and the Huskies with archrival Oregon Ducks have the lead for his services. ASU, UCLA, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Penn State and Tennessee are also in the hunt for Bomar’s services.
Talk about passing the look test, wait till you get to take a glance at Broadas (6-2, 215, 4.4) from Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft. What makes his appearance even more impressive is that fact that Broadas hasn’t been able to work out much due to a hand injury. He should be completely healthy by the time the season starts this September.
Broadas was selected all-city, all-area and all-state as a junior after racking up 144 tackles and seven sacks. He is a lethal hitter who caused four fumbles.
Broadas has great vision and can see the whole field. He used his outstanding speed and makes plays sideline-to-sideline. Arizona has a slight lead over USC and Oklahoma. All three teams have offered. Broadas is getting letters from Washington, Texas, Michigan and Florida.
Tremblay (6-3, 230, 4.65) from Palm Desert, Calif., is seeing his stock soar. To date, Garrett has seven offers from Cal, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Vandy, Colorado and Wisconsin.
It is easy to understand why there is such intense interest in Tremblay. He makes plays. Tremblay had approximately 100 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, three recovered fumbles and one blocked punt.
Tremblay’s performance saw him selected all-league as a junior. Tremblay’s brother is currently is on a football scholarship at Cal.
Turner (6-3, 240, 4.6) from Corona, Calif., is another Golden State linebacker who has been racking up offers of late. Turner was offered scholarships from Colorado, Colorado State, Washington and USC.
“Jonathan is a man among boys on the high school level,” Corona coach John Brandum said. ”He is the complete package of size, strength and speed.”
Turner has excellent strength, benching 300 pounds, squats 450 and cleans 325. He also has a dynamic 35-inch vertical jump.
Posting 103 tackles, Turner was selected league defensive player of the year.
Williams (6-2 ½, 230, 4.55) from Vacaville, Calif., is another California linebacker who has seen his stock take a positive turn this spring. He’s a tremendous athlete who also plays running back, fullback and stars on the baseball team.
Williams has the talent to be recruited on the diamond as well. Football however is a sure thing. He already has offers for his football playing skills from UCLA, USC, Oregon State and Nebraska. The word is LSU, Oregon, Notre Dame and Washington is close to offering the talented linebacker from Vacaville a scholie.
Williams is also interested in Michigan, Arizona, Stanford and Cal.
Wolfley (6-2, 208, 4.6) from Peoria, Ariz., is one of the most sought after prospects from the Grand Canyon State.
Wolfley was selected all-Arizona, all-state and region player of the year. He racked up 109 tackles and had eight sacks as a junior. Wolfley benches 290, squats 430, cleans 300 and ran the shuttle in 4.47 seconds.
The thing that stands out about Wolfley is he always gets to the point of attack and blows up the play. He’s very intense and he’s in on a high number of plays.
Wolfley has an offer from Utah State and is getting heavy recruiting action from ASU, Northwestern, Stanford, Oregon State and UCLA.
