Linebacker Knows Of Four Visits

Another solid defensive prospect is looking very hard at Al Groh’s Virginia program. It appears as though they are the team to beat for one of Virginia’s best linebackers.
“Virginia is my favorite right now,” says 6-foot-0, 225-pound linebacker Jon Copper. “I love everything about their program. I’ve talked to their staff a lot and get along well with them. The academics are great, and the facilities are really nice.”

Last year for Roanoke (VA) Northside, Copper was a menace for opposing offenses.
“Last year I had 83 tackles, 10 sacks, 33 tackles for loss, and three deflected passes. I’m going to improve those numbers next year because I’m getting a lot faster. I now run the 40-yard dash in 4.7 seconds.”
We know Virginia is the team to beat for Copper, but what other schools are in the running?
“I’m pretty sure I would like to take official visits to Virginia, Tennessee, West Virginia, and East Carolina. I’ve taken unofficial visits to all those schools as well. I don’t have any offers yet,” Copper says. “This summer I’ve been to camps at Virginia and out at Oregon. I think I’m going to the Virginia Tech camp on July 14th.”
Copper said that he also likes Virginia Tech quite a bit, but the Hokies haven’t shown as much interest as the others. If Copper can continue to put up great defensive numbers, then he could wind up with a few offers. But would that mean he would be ready to make a decision?
“I think I’m going to wait until February to decide. I’ve got a long time to make this decision, and I’m going to take my time. It should either be at the beginning of February or late January.”
