Linebacker gets first offer

Lake Oswego, Ore. linebacker Andy Darkins, who is the 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, is receiving weekly handwritten letters from Stanford, Cal-Berkeley, and UCLA.
However, Oregon State is the only school to extend an offer so far.
"If Cal, UCLA or Stanford offered me, I would probably commit," Darkins said. "Otherwise, I'll wait."

Asked what he would do if all three offered on the same day, Darkins did not hesitate: "Stanford"
"I have been talking to just about every school in the Pac-10," he said. "It is the best of the best."
Darkins had the following comments about his top three schools.
Stanford: "It is academically prestigious and they have great football. I know a guy who plays there now and he really likes it."
Cal-Berkeley: "They are a team on the rise and will be real talented in a couple of years. Jeff Tedford is a great coach. It is also very prestigious academically."
UCLA: "Definitely on the rise and also great academics."
Darkins is also interested in some Ivy League schools. He specifically mentions Harvard, Dartmouth and the service academies.
He rarely hears from Nebraska and Texas, but he still likes them too.
In his junior season, Darkins had 127 tackles and eight sacks. He also had one touchdown on a fumble recovery, three forced fumbles and two fumbles recovered. He was named first-team all-league and third-team all-state.
