THE LATEST: Nobody can accuse Syracuse of dragging its feet with scholarship offers. At least not in the case of class-of-2020 prospect Johnquai Lewis. The Orange made things official with the young standout a few weeks back and already, Lewis is taking note of coaching staff’s approach.

Assistant Nick Monroe is leading the charge for Syracuse when it comes to Lewis, and he’s certainly made an impression.

“I don’t really know a lot about them but Coach Nick seems like a very good man,” Lewis said. “He was funny. He told me they call him The (Swag) Daddy because he’s got all the (swag). I was laughing, man. He’s a good guy. He really liked my film.”

While Syracuse represents Lewis’ first offer, it certainly won’t represent his last. Already, other schools are in the mix. Even at this early juncture, there’s no shortage of interest in Lewis’ services.

“West Virginia, Kentucky and Miami are the ones I think I want next,” Lewis said. “I know west Virginia has been calling and they might offer soon.”

Just a freshman, Lewis attends Hialeah (Fla.) Champagnat Catholic High School.

IN HIS WORDS: “Kentucky was talking about my spring game. They said they are going to offer me.”

RIVALS REACTION: Attempting to project the recruitment of a high school freshman is an exercise in futility. There’s not telling what path Lewis may take in the future, but Syracuse certainly hasn’t hurt its chances by pulling the trigger on an early offer.
