Marcus Lewis thought his recruitment would slow down when he announced his early commitment to Virginia Tech, but the opposite has occurred. The defensive back from Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga is currently a soft commit to the Hokies, but that hasn't stopped other teams from showing interest.
"Things are still going crazy," the 6-foot-1, 180-pound Lewis said. "I've been getting a bunch of mail. UCLA and USC sent me a lot of mail. USC had a lot of handwritten letters. They told me to follow some coaches on Twitter. Auburn also sent me some mail. Syracuse, Michigan State, Michigan and a lot of others sent mail too.
"I'm going to take USC very seriously. I want to know more about them. It's USC. A lot of great players have played for them. It would be crazy if I got an offer from them."
All of this new interest is complicating things for Lewis, but he remains committed to Virginia Tech.
"Schools still know about Virginia Tech and me, but that isn't holding them back," Lewis said. "The Hokies are still coming at me really hard. Obviously they want to make that a solid commitment. I loved to Virginia Tech when I was down there. I can relate to the guys. Coach (Frank) Beamer is a great and it's a great school. They want to get my parents down there because they haven't seen it yet."
Lewis' recent visit to Penn State made a very good impression.
"The Penn State visit was really good, but it was really cold," he said. "It started snowing during the game. It's a great school with a great coaching staff. Troy Vincent is a friend of mine and he is going there."
Lewis is starting to receive invites to junior days. He mentioned he will be attending Virginia Tech's and is thinking about going to Ohio State's and Penn State's.
