Lewis picks up first offer at Kentucky camp

Anthony Lewis Jr. ()

Offer No. 1 for Anthony Lewis Jr. was the result of an on-campus performance. The feeling of accomplishment is probably nice, but Lewis doesn’t much care how or why he received the opportunity.

The class-of-2018 wide receiver is in the midst of an impressive camp circuit, so when he arrived on Kentucky’s campus to work out, the impressive effort was par for his course. Jones showed up in Lexington, worked out in front of UK coaches and walked away with a scholarship offer.

The Alabama-based prospect’s trip was as businesslike as the come.

“I went to the camp, did drills and one-on-ones, then it just went on from there,” Lewis said. “I did drills with the tight ends coach, and that’s when I got the offer. They had seen my Hudl tape, too. I sent it to them.”

The offer was the highlight of the trip, sure, but Lewis got to check out the campus as well. The usual campus tour took place after the visit, and it seems Kentucky made a solid first impression.

“It was a great, great experience. I loved the campus and the facilities.”

IN HIS WORDS: Auburn and Florida State are sending me a lot of letters,” Lewis said. “I camped at Auburn the day before I went to Kentucky. They like me and are gonna keep touching base with me. I might camp at Florida State this week. I might.”

RIVALS REACTION: There are more offers in store for Lewis, so attempting to guess where Kentucky might fit in with his recruitment as a whole is difficult. That said, it’s never bad to be first, and the Wildcats have that working in their favor.
