Lewerkes recruitment still in its infancy

DALLAS -- It's hard to tell if the offer Brian Lewerke already has in tow is the one he really wants. Lewerke is arguably the top 2015 quarterback in Arizona. And the first college to invite him to play for its program is located right up the street.
He waivers back and forth during the course of a single interview. On one hand, Lewerke is flattered by Arizona State's offer. He raves about the coaching staff and the opportunity to play football so close to his family home.

On the other hand, he's looking for a change of scenery. It's early in the process, so the wavering is to be expected. Lewerke has plenty of time to settle on stance. And as more offers come, he'll attempt to do just that.
"I kind of want to spread my wings, but I don't want to go to too far," Lewerke said. "Arizona State is great, though. So there's a good chance I'll just stay in Arizona, but I'm going to look at colleges outside of the state, too."
Arizona State isn't the only school involved in his recruitment. There's some light buzz on the periphery. And if it's wide-ranging options Lewerke is looking for, he might just get his wish. The offer list is short but the building interest spans time zones.
"Northwestern is talking to me," Lewerke said. "I've been talking to those coaches a little. I'd say UCLA would be the next offer, though. They said they were pretty close to offering. They already have a few offers out to juniors but they really like me. I think they're just waiting to see what happens."
Originally from Washington, Lewerke says he has a certain penchant for the West Coast. But even while he discusses his desire to head toward the Pacific Ocean, he keeps the Sun Devils in mind. For a player with just one scholarship offer, the Phoenix (Ariz.) Pinnacle singnal-caller seems legitimately torn.
"I grew up on the west coast, so an offer from school out there would be nice," he said. "I already have an offer from ASU, though, and that's awesome. It was pretty cool to get offered by them. I'm from Washington, but Washington isn't really talking to me. I didn't get serious about football until I left there, so I don't think they even know who I am."
Next up for Lewerke will be stop at Alabama for a Crimson Tide team camp this week.
It's Alabama, so it's a pretty cool school," Lewerke said about his upcoming trip. "I'd love to be able to maybe earn an offer from them, but I don't know."
