Chandler Leniu has been offered by Cal and he's definitely interested in the Golden Bears but the four-star linebacker sounds like someone who's not backing away from his pledge.
The Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco standout who had an interception in the victory over Concord (Calif.) De La Salle this past weekend has been committed to Washington State since late September.
Leniu said he's going to probably take a trip to Cal in January but doesn't expect to flip his commitment - especially since the Cougars have been so involved for so long.
"I'm going to keep looking at them and I'm going to take my visit but most likely I think I'm going to stick with the Cougs," Leniu said.
"The Cougs have been there since Day 1. They offered me since the beginning. They saw something other colleges didn't see and they always send me letters. I just feel love from them. It's just been great."
So far, Leniu has been offered by Washington State, Cal, Fresno State, Iowa State, Kansas, Nevada, San Jose State and TCU. A trip to Berkeley is being planned but because Washington State has been in the mix for so long he doesn't think anything is going to change with his status.
Saturday night was about Bosco's victory. It was a tough, hard-fought game and Leniu said he has all the respect in the world for De La Salle.
"It means a lot to us," Leniu said. "It means all the hard work we've put in, 16 weeks, has paid off. We came out here against I'm going to say the No. 1 team. They played their hearts out. They've been here. They know what it feels like to win every time but that wasn't going to happen. It was a great win for us and the community.
"That whole o-line is great and incredible. They know how to fire off the ball and get to the back seven. I give it up to them and the coaches. They have my respect."
