Leffler picks the Ivy League

Princeton (N.J.) Hun School linebacker Brian Leffler made his choice this morning. The 6-foot-0, 215-pounder selected Yale over numerous Division I offers including Stanford, Syracuse and West Virginia.
"I committed this morning, but knew for the past couple days," he stated. "It was a lot of things for me. It's tough as an athlete, I had to put my ego aside. I knew I could play Division I-A football on a full scholarship and succeed.

"I'm fortunate enough where I can go to a good school and have a good family and have them support what the best decision for me is. Yale is obviously a great situation for my future and ultimately I was most comfortable with the Yale staff, campus and people. It fit right for me."
What was it about the staff the three-star prospect liked?
"They went through a coaching change this year, the old coach retired and I was worried my recruiter, Coach Flanders wouldn't be kept on," he said. "He got retained and right when Coach Williams took the new head coaching job, on his first day he got a hold of me right away. I have built a good relationship with him and I know he'll be there the next four years.
"I feel a good connection with the staff. They have always been honest and upfront with me."
As for playing time, Leffler has a shot to play soon.
"They just graduate their all-league inside linebacker and told me there is an open spot there for whoever earns it," he said. "I have a great shot."
Leffler added a final thought on his choice.
"I know a lot of people will scratch their head, but I'm not the average high school recruit. It feels great to have a decision and I couldn't be more excited."
