Leader For Top OL

Charlotte (N.C.) Myers Park offensive lineman Tripp Carroll has named a clear leader.
“Virginia Tech is my top choice,” said the 6-foot-5, 280-pound superstar who ranks amongst the top offensive linemen in the country. “I’ve already been there many times and the coaching staff, players, atmosphere, campus --- everything is great.”

Carroll has more than 30 written offers with more coming in every day. While the Hokies are in the driver’s seat, he’s going to take his time before committing.
“If I were to choose right now, it would be Tech for sure but I need to make sure it’s the right place,” he said. “Other schools like North Carolina, NC State, Florida, Florida State, Miami, South Carolina, Clemson and others are very tempting and are recruiting me hard. I need to look at all my options and make sure I make the right decision.”
Carroll is already fully qualified and isn’t threatened by the fact that Tech already has a commitment from on of the top linemen in the east – Centreville’s Matt Welsh.
“I was at the photo shoot with him at Blacksburg and he seemed cool,” he said. “I’m not afraid of competition. Anywhere I go there will be competition and the better they are the more they’ll push me.”
Carroll wants to take all of his official visits before deciding and continues to work hard on improving.
“I’m bench pressing 390 pounds now and my squat is more than 500,” he said. “I’m also working on my quickness. Hard work is what it takes.”
