Spencer Lytle traveled halfway across the country this past weekend to watch Minnesota’s home game against Illinois.

He definitely does not regret it.

The 2019 three-star linebacker from Anaheim (Calif.) Servite has been regularly talking with the Minnesota coaching staff and he got an opportunity to check out everything the Golden Gophers have to offer.

“Visit went great,” Lytle said. “Toured the campus to include the new facilities and met with a professor from the business school.

“Following that I met with coach (Robb) Smith about their scheme and discussed how well I fit their defense. Right before the game my mom, dad and I spent 20 minutes or so with coach (P.J.) Fleck and his wife in his office talking about the culture and how much he wants me at the U.”

Getting to spend some time with Fleck was definitely a highlight for Lytle, who has looked good all season at linebacker for Anaheim Servite and who’s also coming off a strong offseason.

“That was a pretty cool experience and I definitely appreciated that he took the time to personally meet with us on game day,” Lytle said. “Game-day atmosphere was awesome. I was also able to talk to some of the 18 commits.”

And his thoughts on Fleck throughout the weekend?

“Great, passionate and fiery coach,” Lytle said. “The meeting was awesome.”

So far, Lytle has received more than 20 offers. His brother, Tyler, plays quarterback at Colorado but the 2019 prospect has said numerous times he’s going to do whatever is best for himself in the recruiting process.
