Offer No. 1 came in last week for Richmond (Va.) Varina linebacker Larry Spears. Who pulled the trigger on the 6-foot-0, 214-pounder?
"I talked to Chad Wilt, the line coach," he said. "He told me showed my film to the whole coaching staff and their head coach liked it and wanted to offer me."
Spears is thrilled with the offer.

"It feels good getting the first offer," he said. "I know Ball State really wants me, but I'm still going to keep my options open."
Does he know anything about the Cardinals?
"I know they are up in Indiana and they are Division I and play Division I teams. I've also heard they have a great academic program, but that's about all I know. I'm planning to go up there sometime this summer to visit."
In addition to the offer, Miami checked out Spears last week.
"They came by the school and showed some interest in me," he said. "They took my film and plan to show it to the head coach."
At the moment, no other visits are coming for Spears.
However, he is planning camps.
"I'm going to James Madison, Virginia and Virginia Tech to showcase my skills."
