LB Smith plays by the rules

Highland Park, Ill. three star ranked inside linebacker prospect Scott Smith (6-foot-2, 225 pounds) had hoped to make an unofficial visit to the University of Notre Dame last weekend, but a last minute check revealed that NCAA recruiting regulations would not have allowed Smith to make this visit.

"I was going to make an unofficial visit to Notre Dame last weekend, then head to my basketball game on Saturday night in Milwaukee," Smith said. "But at the last minute we checked and the NCAA rules prohibit anyone from making any visit and playing in any contest on the same day. I wanted to be there for the first big visit weekend but because of those rules I needed to cancel that trip."

Smith is hoping to make his official visit to South Bend this coming weekend.

"I only have a basketball game this week on Friday night, so I'm hoping that I'll be able to get a full official visit in this coming weekend. I still need to talk with the coaches this week and set up that visit."

Smith is hoping to get to talk with the new coaching staff at Notre Dame as well as helping the Irish land a few additional prospect.

"I'm excited to get some time to get to know the coaches and the players better, plus I also want to help out in anyway in trying to get some prospects to verbal to the Irish. I definitely want to help out with recruiting in anyway that I can."
