LB Sherman selects UConn

North Attleboro, Mass. linebacker Anthony Sherman concluded his recruitment on Friday by committing to Connecticut. The 6-foot-0, 225-pounder had been waiting for a while to give his verbal pledge.
"I had been there multiple times. I went for their junior day, spring game and then I went back for their one day camp," he said. "When I was there I was wowed by the way the coaches treated the players and me. They gave me the personal treatment. I got home that night and talked to coach Foley, my recruiter who asked me where they stand. I told him they were at the top of my list and then he went on to say don't be afraid of committing.

"After the call, I went to sleep and when I woke up I had a text message from Randy Edsall. I called him and he basically told me that he needed to know within the next week because they were holding off on another recruit. I talked with my parents and coaches and decided to commit. They didn't really rush me into a decision since I was planning to commit there all along, I just didn't do it yet and I feel like it's the best decision for me."
What made Sherman select the Huskies?
"I'm excited about going there and I like the fact I'll be able to stay close to home," he said. "I'm also a big fan of the fact they are one of the top up and coming schools in the country. I'm excited I'll be apart of that for the next four or five years. I like the coaches a lot there too. Coach Foley is a nice guy as is coach Edsall.
"Finally, the coaches feel I have a chance to make an immediate impact. They are recruiting me as an athlete to play fullback, linebacker and special teams. I talked to the coaches and they think I can play special teams as a freshman and be a backup for fullback and linebacker. By my sophomore year, I should definitely have a chance to possibly play one or both positions."
