LB Poly linebacker making the grade

Long Beach (Calif.) Poly always has players, year in and year out, 2003 is no different. One player who is doing a fine job this season is linebacker Tracy Mimms (6-0, 225, 4.7). Mimms is playing middle linebacker but will probably end up on the edge on the collegiate level.
Poly is an uncharacteristic 2-2 to open the season but Mimms has been doing his part. On the season, Mimms has 18 solos, two sacks, one forced fumble and one interception.

Mimms has received phone calls from San Jose State and Boise State. He is receiving to letters from Washington, UCLA, Kansas State, Utah State, Montana and Cal State Sacramento.
The scouting report on Mimms is he’s a very instinctive football player with big time playmaking skills.
“My coach (Poly head coach Raul Lara) calls me a Florida State type of linebacker,” Mimms said. “He thinks I get to the ball in a hurry.”
“I’m keeping my options open regarding college,” Mimms said. “I’m just going to go out and play hard and see what happens.”
