Junior To Watch: Robert Ayers

Position: Linebacker
Size and speed: 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds. He runs the forty-yard dash in 4.5 seconds.
Honors: Defensive Player of the Week five times, Gatorade Player of the Week two times.
Statistics: Ayers had 94 tackles, 27 solo tackles, 23 tackles for loss, eight sacks, eight quarterback pressures, three interceptions and four fumble recoveries as a junior.
Favorite schools: South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Clemson, Alabama, Vanderbilt, North Carolina, Penn State.
Skinny: Robert Ayers is a college head coach's dream at linebacker. Ayers has great size, speed, and confidence.
Ayers is coached by Dean Boyd at Marlborough County.
“On Friday nights he gets in his zone," said Boyd. "He’ll make big plays for you.”
Ayers is ready to improve on a season where he only played nine games. Ayers is working hard at getting better everyday.
“I want to work on my speed, strength, and academics. I’m going to try to get stronger.”
Ayers is currently sporting a 285 bench press and 385 squat.
His teammate, Syvelle Newton, inked with South Carolina this month, but that won't affect Ayers' decision.
"I don't have any favorites," he said. "I like South Carolina and my recruiting coach there, Chris Cosh, but I want to remain open."
Ayers has no offers at this early stage in recruiting. He plans to attend summer football camps at South Carolina, Clemson, North Carolina, Tennessee.
