Shelby (N.C.) Crest Senior linebacker Duane Maddox is receiving interest from some of the top schools in the country. According to his head coach Roy Kirby, the 6-foot-2, 225-pounder holds three offers so far.
"He's already got offers from North Carolina State, North Carolina and Clemson," he said. "Florida is calling about him and teams like Notre Dame, Virginia and Virginia Tech have come by too. I think he's going to be a national recruit."
Kirby believes two programs are currently leading for his talented junior.
"Right now I think North Carolina State and North Carolina are the two favorites," he said. "He's been a basketball and football fan of both of those, but we'll see when more offers come."
Helping Crest Senior to a 10-3 year Maddox posted 100 tackles, five sacks and three deflections as a junior on his way to conference defensive player of the year honors.
"The thing that separates him from other players is his speed," he said. "He's so fast and very smart. He's just a playmaker, when you need a big play he's there and averages somewhere between eight to twelve solo tackles a game. Off the field, he's a great kid and comes from an excellent family. He's very special and I'm just glad he's coming back."
