Junior to Watch: Mike McCallister

Position: Outside linebacker and tide end
Size and Speed: McCallister is 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds. He has been timed in the 40-yard dash at 4.71 seconds and he should qualify with a 3.4 grade point average and an 1170 SAT score.
Honors: McCallister was selected to the all-county team as a junior.
Statistics: McCalister made an estimated 80 tackles and six sacks a junior.
Skinny: Green Gove Springs (Fla.) Clay high is home of the of the best two-sport athletes in Northeast Florida. Mike McCallister, an outside linebacker, is getting the attention of scouts in both football and baseball.
As a sophomore, McCallister was offered a scholarship to play baseball at the University of Florida. Will baseball be a big factor on his signing day decision?
“Baseball is my best sport,” McCallister said. “Baseball will have a lot to do with where I play football. Georgia, Florida and South Carolina have been showing the most interest in baseball. I’m getting mail from Florida and Miami in football.”
He describes his strengths on the football field as having a quick first step and a good sense of where the ball is at all times.
At this time McCallister doesn’t have a favorite, and he plans on keeping his options open.
