LB Has Leader Four Others

One of the top linebackers from the Maryland area is one of the most sought after players on the east coast. Right now he has a favorite, a top three, and a couple more schools he’s considering.
“My favorite school right now has to be Syracuse. I love the structure of their team, the coaches and the campus,” said linebacker Derron Thomas. “Behind them I like NC State and Pittsburgh to round out my top three. I’m also looking at Maryland and Virginia, but they’re a little behind.”

At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Thomas can put on about 20 or 30 pounds and still keep his quickness. He said that he runs the 40-yard dash in 4.7 seconds, and that’s what he wants to work on improving most of this year. He believes he’s improved a lot over the summer.
Last year at Greenbelt (Md.) Eleanor Roosevelt, Thomas racked up 117 tackles, four sacks, four fumble recoveries, and two interceptions. On offense as a tight end, he caught seven passes for an incredible 238 yards and two touchdowns, making the most of each catch.
“I camped at Virginia and Syracuse this summer, and spent a day at Auburn. I think they all got me more exposure. I’ve also taken unofficial visits to Syracuse, Virginia, NC State, North Carolina, and Georgia Tech. I had the most fun at NC State and North Carolina, but Syracuse is still my leader. Right now I have 15 offers, and all my favorites have offered. I should end up with more after the season.”
Thomas would like to take all five of his official visits, but he only knows he wants to visit Syracuse and Pitt at this point.
“I think our team could be really good next year. We were the state runner-ups last year, and I think we can take home the title this year. I want to take all my officials as soon as possible right after the season so I can decide by December or January.”
