LB Forbes set to go out west

Cornerback Louis Young surprised some folks by making an early verbal commitment to Stanford, though he is still planning on checking out other options. Apparently he's not the only prospect from the state of Maryland that is considering a move out west.
Frederick (Md.) Thomas Johnson linebacker Nick Forbes will be flying out to the west coast later this week to check out a couple of schools.

"I'm leaving Thursday afternoon to fly out to California," Forbes said. "Friday I'm going to be visiting Cal. I'll go watch a practice and stay there for most of the day. Then I'll be attending Stanford's Junior Day. I think I'll be attending a practice at Stanford, too.
"I'm just interested in those two schools. Stanford is really prestigious. Cal is too, apparently. I found out that's the number one rated public school in the U.S.
"My mom definitely wanted me to get a shot to go to the best school. My uncle's gonna take me out there.
"My relationship with Cal is kind of funny, really. The Cal coach told me that when he first came to my school he really didn't know anything about me. He was visiting J.R. Ferguson at a different school. He watched my tape in my coach's office and offered me.
"As far as west coast schools go those are the two I really want to see. This spring or summer I might go out to see Oregon because I've been getting a lot of stuff from them."
Forbes recently returned from a junior day at Pitt and said that event went well.
"As far as spring practices go, I want to try to go to something at Pitt and Wake Forest. I'm going to try to go to Maryland and West Virginia. I might go to West Virginia for a couple of days because my sister goes there and I'd like to try to stay out there for a little bit.
"I was also gonna try to see a UVa practice but I'm not sure. As far as summer camps go, I don't know. I know I'm going to the NIKE Camp at Penn State, but I don't know about school camps."
What type of impact will his sister being at West Virginia have on Forbes?
"I haven't really thought much about that," he said. "It would be nice to know she's at all my games but I don't think that's a big factor in the end."
Forbes now holds offers from Boston College, Cal, Maryland, Pitt, Rutgers, Stanford, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
It's too early for him to start to narrow things down, though.
"Right now the offers I have are my favorites. I mean, I haven't really narrowed anything down. Hopefully by the summer I'll have it down to a good solid number ... a smaller number, like five. Right now I'm just trying to get as much information as I can on all the schools."
