LB close to commitment

Derron Thomas is one of the top linebackers from Maryland this year and is piling up offers. He has a list of four schools he's considering and has a leader.
"Right now my top four are Pitt, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Syracuse," said Thomas. "Pittsburgh is probably my leader right now."

Thomas currently has plenty of offers from schools in major conferences. With offers from Georgia Tech, North Carolina, NC State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Maryland and Virginia, Thomas can pick and choose. What does this 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker like about Walt Harris' Pitt program?
"They're having a great year right now and they have a lot of good young players. I like their coaching staff, the city, the campus and the school.
"I haven't officially visited any school yet, but I've been to all of them unofficially. Right now I have three officials set up. I'll be at Syracuse (Dec. 6), Pittsburgh (Dec. 13) and North Carolina (Dec. 20). I'm also going to be visiting Georgia Tech sometime in November."
Thomas plays both inside linebacker and tight end for Greenbelt (Md.) Eleanor Roosevelt. Most schools are recruiting him as a defensive end, but that may be subject to change when he arrives on campus. Does he have a timeframe for when he would like to make his decision?
"There's a chance I might commit to Pitt after I visit if I like it enough. Coach Blackwell, the linebackers coach, he's really nice. I've talked to him on the phone a couple of times, and I like him. Coach Simms, my recruiting coach, he's really cool along with coach Walt Harris. I'll probably make a decision right after I take my visits."
