Lawson picks Virginia Tech

CARSON, Calif. -- Dwayne Lawson's commitment to Miami was fractured in mid December. It certainly didn't take long for the four-star quarterback to create a new one, though, this time with Virginia Tech.

Lawson committed to the Hokies live on national television during the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl, indicating that the ACC program was the right fit for him and his 6-foot-6 frame.
"I decided to play ball at Virginia Tech," Lawson said during the Fox Sports One broadcast of the Semper Fidelis game.
A standout at Tampa (Fla.) Hillsborough High School, Lawson chose Virginia Tech over finalists USF and Miami. There wasn't much drama surrounding his announcement, though, as his love for Virginia Tech has been on display via social media for weeks leading into his announcement.
That said, there's something to say for a commitment being a done deal.
"All the players have the same thing in mind," Lawson said. "They're hungry, they want to play."
As a senior at Hillsborough, Lawson led his team to a 9-2 record. He threw for 2,444 yards and 211 touchdowns. He also ran for 867 yards and 17 additional scores.
