Position: Wide Receiver/Free Safety/Athlete
Size and Speed: Hawkins stands 6-foot-1 weighs in at 175 pounds and runs the forty in 4.42.
Honors: Hawkins was selected Area Wide Receiver of the Year, was a first-team all-league performer on both sides of the ball. He was also selected second-team all-state as an all-purpose player.
Statistics: As a wide receiver Hawkins had 53 receptions for just fewer than 1,000 yards and scored ten touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball as a free safety, Hawkins amassed 75 tackles, four picks, three fumbles caused and two sacks.
Favorite Colleges: Hawkins is interested in USC, UCLA, Washington, Tennessee, Florida and LSU. All six schools have reciprocated the interest.
Skinny: “Lavelle is an electrifying player,” Edison interim head coach Elliott Burke said. “No matter what side of the ball, Lavelle dominates.”
On the offensive side of the ball Hawkins has outstanding hands and runs great routes. “Lavelle has the ability to score whenever he gets his hands on the ball,” Burke said. “That is why we try to get the ball in his hands.”
Hawkins is also a great punt and kick returner but he never had the ball kicked to him.
“The opposition always squibbed the ball rather than let the ball go to our deep guys,” Burke said. “I don’t blame the opposition at all. We had Lavelle and Rueben (Jackson) back there. Those two were a threat to score.”
Hawkins was at the USC skills camp this past weekend. He has the skills to make an impact on either side of the ball and as a special teams performer.
Hawkins plays for a team that has had an excellent track record for sending players to the D-I level. Hawkins is another Edison standout who will play on the collegiate level.
