Lathers adds a major SEC scholarship

Baton Rouge (La.) Istrouma linebacker Herman Lathers added his fifth official visit of the recruiting season not too long ago. The 6-foot-0, 192-pounder landed the offer from one of the major powers in the SEC.
"Lately I got offered by Tennessee about a week or two ago," he said. "I also have offers from Ole Miss, Baylor, Tulane and Stanford.

"The offer from Tennessee was a big surprise for me. I went to their camp this summer and they told me they liked me and then they offered. I think right now Tennessee is one of my top choices. I like the coaches and the weight program there. They really work with you."
The other school standing out for the three-star prospect is fellow offer Ole Miss.
"They are right up there," he said. "I really like the running back coach there. He shows a high interest in me."
Currently Lathers has scheduled one official visit.
"I've sit the first one up to Tennessee on October 5th. That will be my first official. I am working on one to Ole Miss."
Meanwhile, plenty of other schools are interested in the Louisiana prospect too.
"LSU, Purdue, Colorado and West Virginia are all showing interest," he said. "I actually just came back from camp at LSU. They all told me they'll watch me this year.
"Of those, I'd say if LSU offered that might change things for me a lot. I grew up on them."
While recruiting is definitely heating up, practice is in full swing for Lathers.
"I've been busy and it's going great," he said. "I've seen an improvement in my play. I'm able to move around more, my speed is better and I'm flexible."
Istrouma opens the season on August 31st.
